A Season of Extremes: This Year's Weather vs Last Year from a Landscaper’s Lens

Landscaping isn’t just about paving and planting. It’s about dancing with the weather—whether it’s pouring down, freezing up, or scorching the back of your neck. As we hit the heart of summer, we thought it was the perfect time to look back at how this year’s weather compares to last year’s—and what it’s meant for the landscaping trade.

Last Year: A Slow Burner with a Wet Start

Cast your mind back to spring and summer of last year. It felt like we were waiting forever for the ground to dry. March and April brought endless drizzle, soft ground, and delayed starts. Garden projects were postponed, patios were half-prepped, and diggers sat idle. By the time May arrived, the sun made a late entrance and, to be fair, gave us a decent run into July—but the damage had already been done for many landscapers trying to stick to a schedule.

This Year: Early Heat, Early Headaches

Now fast-forward to this year. Spring came in strong. April brought blue skies and an unexpected wave of warmth that sent landscapers racing to site. It was game on. Jobs kicked off early. Retail customers came out in droves. Merchants saw stock flying out quicker than they could refill.

But then came the flip side. June was a scorcher. And while the dry ground made for good laying conditions, the relentless heat turned patios into frying pans and site work into survival missions. It was a summer of early starts, litres of water, and the occasional well-earned ice cream at lunch.

Weather Impacts: Then vs Now

Delays vs Demands
Last year was defined by delays. This year? It’s been about demands. From last-minute orders to urgent delivery requests, everyone’s been trying to make the most of the good weather—before it changes its mind.

Stock Movement
Last year’s slow start meant stock sat still. This year, porcelain and natural stone flew out fast. We’ve seen strong uptake in early-season sales, particularly in trending ranges like planks, warm-tone slabs, and anything Italian.

Working Conditions
2024 was a case of slipping in the mud. 2025 has been about keeping cool under pressure — literally.

What's It All Mean?

If you’re in landscaping, the weather sets your pace — and this year’s forecast has kept us on our toes. Early starts, rapid installations, and the push to meet customer expectations before the next spell of rain. It’s been a fast-paced season, with plenty of opportunities for those ready to move.

While last year had us waiting for the sun, this year has been a sprint to stay ahead of it.
